Bringing an artist’s eye to custom architectural products.

Following several years of freelance work, Sharon Dixon, local artist and entrepreneur, opened Architectural FOAM & Art located in Rockledge, Florida. Architectural FOAM & Art offers clients design, drawing and production services for custom architectural products. Dixon employs a variety of architectural products, from hand carved custom relief medallions and other architectural details to machine cut forms such as crown moldings, columns, and medallions.

Dixon is uniquely positioned to provide a wide variety of products. For custom machine cut foam products such as moldings and backgrounds, Dixon uses a hot wire directed by a computer to control the motion. Dixon draws a project's profile in an engineering software program, which converts the drawing to code. The machine uses the hot wire to cut EPS (expanded polystyrene) foam, which starts as a billet block, typically measuring 3 feet x 4 feet x 8 feet. Once cut the pieces are finished and coated for the environment (interior or exterior) in which they will be used. Polystyrene is used as a foundation for the machine product. Expanded polystyrene is durable and has a long life with little maintenance. It doesn't rot or decay as wood does and is more economical, making it a great choice for architectural elements and accents.

Dixon can create one of a kind custom carved relief sculptures depicting anything from dolphins to the human figure depending on the client's requirements, using a special type of carving foam with various hand tools. From her choice of materials to her efforts to utilize every leftover scrap from projects, Dixon has gone to great lengths to maintain a proper balance between her work and the environment. Desiring to be environmentally responsible Dixon has also invested in machinery to recycle waste foam into packing material. For more information, contact Sharon Dixon at 321-795-4533.
